The unofficial start of summer is upon us, and if you are hosting or attending a Memorial Day gathering and are looking for an easy and delicious dessert, look no further than Chocolate Lasagna!

We came across a recipe for this dessert last summer, and made if for a neighborhood 4th of July party. It was so easy and tasty, we have made it for other holidays since then.

At our neighbors’ July 4th party, our neighbor said, “You have lived across from me all this time, and you have never made this for me?” :) Since he was such a fan, we made extra this past Easter and took him his own dessert. He was so excited.

The great thing about this dessert is that it is so versatile. The ingredients remain the same, regardless of the holiday. You just simply change up the candy decoration on top.

My daughter used fall sprinkles last year when she made it for a Friendsgiving dinner. We used Christmas candy colors to make it for a holiday party.

There’s no baking involved, and no fancy ingredients. Just Oreos, butter, cream cheese, sugar, Cool Whip, chocolate pudding, milk, mini chocolate chips, and the sprinkles of your choice.

You simply crush a package of Oreos until they are finely ground. We just put them in a Ziplock bag and used a rolling pin to crush them. We like Double Stuff Oreos, but you can use the regular ones, too.

Then you add the melted butter to the Oreos. This mixture becomes your crust. You press it into the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish.

Then you mix the cream cheese until it is fluffy. We use whipped cream cheese because it’s already light and airy. Combine that with the milk and sugar and 1 1/4 cup of the Cool Whip.

This becomes your next layer, as you spread it over the cookie crust.

Then you make the chocolate pudding by combining instant pudding mix with milk, according to the directions. Let the pudding set up a bit, and then spread it across the cream cheese mixture to form your next layer.

Then cover the entire dessert with the remaining Cool Whip to form the final layer. Then sprinkle the Cool Whip layer with mini chocolate chips and colorful sprinkles.

You will want to freeze the chocolate lasagna for an hour or refrigerate it for about four hours before serving so that everything sets up properly.

You can see here where we added Christmas sprinkles last December for a holiday party.

And used these Easter sprinkles to make the spring version of this dessert.

This dessert is a crowd favorite and so easy to make.

So no need to fire up the oven this weekend to make a great dessert. Just whip up this patriotic chocolate lasagna! If you make it, I’d love to know if you liked it!

And I’d love for you to follow me on Pinterest!
