I’m at it again. If you have read my blog before, you know I love to try out new skin care products. I’m always looking for new things to try and reading reviews about products. Recently I switched it up again and am following a new skin care routine.

I recently came across a product called Dr. G Brightening Peeling Gel.

I was kind of afraid of the term “peeling gel” but the reviews were really good so I decided to give it a try. The description of the product indicates that among other things, it contains natural cellulose which helps exfoliate dead skin, vitamins C and E which can help brighten skin, black willow which brightens skin tone, and honey, hollyhock and trehalose which all help moisturize skin.

It’s very easy to use. Cleanse your face, then while it is wet, apply the gel and begin massaging it on your face. I use a circular motion and after a very short time, you will begin to feel dead skin balling up under your fingertips. Ew. It is not a harsh grit at all, but rather a very fine grit that I have not found to irritate my skin. After you’re satisfied you’ve balled up all your dead skin cells, just rinse off and dry.

I have to say after I use this product my face is SO. SOFT. Like baby butt soft. 🙂

Exfoliation is very important because it keeps our skin from looking dull. I exfoliate pretty regularly but was still surprised to see the little bits of dead skin cells balling up on my face.

I have sensitive skin and have not experienced any irritation from this product at all. I have been using it several times a week and I love it.

Next on my list of new favorite skin care products is actually a whole line from LilyAna Naturals which sells their products on Amazon. I don’t personally always seek out all natural vegan products, but this line uses all natural ingredients that are vegan friendly and cruelty free. I also like that they are moderately priced.

The products from their line that I have started using are the Face Cream, the Vitamin C Serum, and the Retinol Cream. They also offer an eye cream that I have not tried yet.

I really like the packaging of these products. They look very vintage, like something you’d see on a lady’s dressing table in some bygone era. 🙂

In what order should you apply skin care products?

From what I have read about skin care products over the years, there is a preferred order in which to apply all your creams and serums.

  • You should start with the thinnest products first, which are usually serums.
  • Apply antioxidants next, such as vitamin C, which can brighten skin and increase collagen production.
  • Moisturizers come next. These seal in the serums.
  • Sunscreen goes on top of everything to protect your skin from harmful rays.
  • In the evening, after applying your serums and moisturizers, finish off with a retinol product. Retinol is vitamin A.

So I start by cleansing my face with micellar water.

If I’m using the Dr. G Brightening Peeling Gel then I apply that next and rinse that off.

Then I apply the Vitamin C Serum. I like the consistency of this product. It is milky in color and you just put a bit in your hand with the dropper that comes with the bottle.

Then after the serum has dried I apply the Face Cream. This product has a pump and I apply a small amount in my hand and apply to my face. It has a very faint and pleasant scent of roses.

After that soaks in I apply a small amount of the Retinol in the evenings.

It is important to allow your products time to soak in rather than just slathering everything on one right after another. Put on a serum, then go get a refill on your coffee. Apply the moisturizer then apply a moisturizer to your arms and legs while you wait. Then on to the next.

I have read that you shouldn’t be afraid to adjust the order of your skin care products if you find your skin irritated. You can try applying a moisturizer first before applying serums. This may reduce how effective the subsequent products will be with that moisture barrier in place, but it may also reduce irritation.

One thing I always do when applying skin care products to my face is to rub in the excess on my hands. Our hands can give away our age if we don’t take care of them. They take a beating and we should try to pamper them as we do our faces. Next time you see a celebrity whose face is pulled so tight she looks like she’s in a wind tunnel, take a look at her hands. Often they give her age away. The late Joan Rivers knew this and said, “Believe me, you can hide a lot of things, but the hands always give it away.” 🙂

I haven’t been using this group of LilyAna Naturals products very long, so I haven’t SEEN any major changes in my skin yet, and I know that takes time. But I can definitely FEEL a difference in my skin. It is very soft and feels hydrated. I have oily skin and live in a very humid climate, so dry skin is not something I struggle with. But I still know good hydration when I feel it. 🙂

If you are in a skin care slump, you might want to try the LilyAna Naturals line a try. If you do, I’d love to know what you think!

I would also love to know if you have any skin care secrets to share. I’m always on the hunt! Feel free to share your tips in the comment section.
