It’s here! It’s that time of year again for Amazon Prime Day. This year Amazon is mixing things up a bit and it’s actually Prime Day and a half, lasting for 36 hours from July 16th at 12pm PT/3pm ET through midnight on July 17th.
What is Prime Day? Amazon Prime Day is a shopping event available to those with Prime memberships, and is meant to rival a Black Friday type of event. There are deals on all sorts of merchandise, and flash sales, allowing Prime members to get some great bargains.
What is a Prime Membership? I’ve been an Amazon Prime member for so many years I can’t remember when I joined. But it occurred to me that perhaps not everyone is familiar with an Amazon Prime membership. For a cost of $119 per year, members get free two-day shipping on millions of items. You also have access to Prime Video, unlimited music streaming, photo storage, and reading.
If you are not yet a Prime member, you can get a free 30-day trial here:
Amazon has its fingers in a lot of pots and there are many other opportunities available to Prime members besides just shopping. So let’s go over what else you can do as a Prime member:
Join Amazon Music Unlimited. This promotion allows you to take advantage of four months of Amazon Music Unlimited for only $0.99 (regularly $7.99 per month for Prime and $9.99 for non-Prime). You have access to millions of songs, including new releases. You can listen ad-free with unlimited skips and download songs to listen to offline.

Amazon Audible. This membership allows you to listen to millions of books offered by Amazon. You get:
- 1 credit a month, good for any audiobook regardless of price.
- Your own library to build. Keep your audiobooks forever, even if you cancel.
- Exclusive member savings. Get 30% off any additional audiobooks
- Easy exchanges. If you don’t love the book you can swap it for free anytime.
The free app allows you to listen to your books on any device, and you can switch devices without losing your place.

This time around, Amazon is also offering an Audible Romance Package, where you can listen to thousands of romance books for $14.95/month ($6.95/month for Audible and Kindle Unlimited members). The first month is free and you can cancel any time.

Prime Student 6-month Trial. Students can get an Amazon Prime membership at a discounted price of $59 a year, or $6.49 a month that allows them to get the Prime 2-day shipping, unlimited movies and TV shows, free unlimited photo storage, music streaming and reading, and same-day delivery if they live in an eligible area. There are also deals especially for students, and 30-minute early access to Amazon Lightening Deals. A Prime Student membership can be great for college students because they can reorder things they need like printer ink cartridges or coffee pods or school supplies with the click of a button.

Twitch Prime. Twitch is Amazon’s social video platform and community for gamers. Members can enjoy ad-free viewing, pre-order price guarantees, discounts on pre-order box games, and release-date delivery. You can check out Twitch here:
Prime Pantry. This Amazon service allows members in select regions to shop for grocery and household items in everyday sizes. Prime members can pay an additional monthly Prime Pantry membership fee to receive FREE shipping on all orders of $40 or more, or pay a flat $7.99 shipping fee for each order placed. The quantity of items in the order or the number of boxes will not affect the flat $7.99 fee per order. This perk can save you trips to the grocery store!
To receive $10 of orders over $40 with a free trial, take a look at Prime Pantry here.
Amazon Fresh. This service allows Prime members in select areas to shop for groceries, everyday essentials, and favorites from local shops and restaurants. You can visit Amazon.com/AmazonFresh to see if pick-up or delivery is available in your area. Prime members who start a free trial can also get $30 off their first order (PROMO CODE: 30FRESH). Existing customers can also use this same promo code from now through July 17th.

Amazon and Whole Foods. You’ve probably heard about the Amazon/Whole Foods partnership, and that means some great deals on Prime Day. Whole Foods already offers a 10% discount for Amazon Prime members as well as free two-hour delivery in select cities. Prime Day will offer even more benefits. To take advantage of the Whole Foods deals on Prime Day, you need to be a Prime member and download the Whole Foods app to get the discounts.
- From now until July 17th, Prime members who spend $10 at Whole Foods will receive a $10 credit on Amazon on Prime Day.
- Whole Foods is offering discounts on Prime Day on items like fruit, chicken breasts, coffee, water, cereal, seafood, and select supplements.
- If you qualify for Whole Foods delivery in your area, you will receive $10 off an order placed before July 17th, as well as another $10 credit for use on a future order.
FreeTime Unlimited. Amazon FreeTime Unlimited is an all-in-one subscription for kids that offers unlimited access to thousands of kids’ books, videos, movies, TV shows, and a growing library of Audible books, skills and music. Available for Fire, Echo, Kindle & Android compatible devices. For a limited time, parents can get a 3-month pre-paid plan for $2.99 (regularly $29.99).
Parents also receive access to easy-to-use parental controls that allow them to find the right balance between education and entertainment. Parents can personalize screen time limits, set educational goals, filter age-appropriate content, and also manage web browsing and content usage based on their preferences.
FreeTime lets parents set daily limits, or restrict certain categories – like apps and video – while leaving unlimited time for reading. While in FreeTime Unlimited, kids don’t have access to social media and can’t make in-app purchases without parental approvals.
