Hot-Weather Drink: Espresso Tonic

I don’t know about where you live but I cannot remember when it was this hot in Texas so early in the summer. We have been in triple digits nearly every day recently and it is BRUTAL. This was our recent forecast:

It is a challenge to stay cool in weather like this.

I love to drink iced coffee all day long, so that is always my go-to.

But I recently heard about an Espresso Tonic. This drink is not new, but it is having a moment.

It was invented in Sweden in 2007, but as with all things, when the TikTok folks happen upon something and deem it cool, that’s all that matters. 🙂

This drink is refreshing and could not be easier to make.

The full ingredient list is in the title. You just pour tonic water over ice and top with a shot of espresso. You can garnish with an orange slice or any other favorite citrus.

Tonic water has a definite taste, so you’ll want to experiment with how much you like in your drink. If you don’t like gin and tonics, this drink may not be for you.

If you don’t like the taste of tonic water, you could try using a little bit of sparkling water instead. You won’t want to use too much, as it can water down the coffee flavor, but if you get the proportions the way you like it, it’s basically a carbonated coffee drink. 🙂

It won’t still be an Espresso Tonic, but still tasty. You can call yours an Espresso Spritzer or whatever you want to name it! 🙂

Just make sure when making your Espresso Tonic that you pour the tonic first, then add the espresso. Otherwise, you’ll get some weird brown foam on top from the carbonation.

So that’s all you have to do. Two ingredients, instant refreshment. 🙂
