It was a little dreary here this past weekend, so I decided to do a fall project. You may have heard of Nail Polish Gems. They are so easy and fun to make, and you may already have what you need on hand.
All you need is nail polish, and little clear gems. You can find them at craft stores, or order them online.
You all know I love all things manicure and nail polish, so I was pretty well stocked on that front. But just as a precaution, we found a GREAT deal at Tuesday Morning last week on Formula X glittery polishes, so we got some more.
You want to use sparkly polishes for this craft. The sparklier the better!
I wanted to use some fall colors to make a little decorative item. You can choose whatever colors you like.
All you do is flip the little gems over so that the flat side is facing you, then apply the polish.
Then just get creative! It works best if you start with your lighter colors, then apply a darker color on top of that to make the lighter color show up.
Here’s what some of them look like before putting a darker color on over the lighter color:
I love all the little flecks.
This one is a combination of orange flecks and a sparkly polish on top:
I really love these two. Same orange flecks, then one with a brown colored polish on top, and the other with a blue sparkly polish.
Just remember, there are no rules!
My husband even decided he wanted to try his hand at a few. (After he spent a fair amount of time griping about how much money my daughter and I have spent on nail polish over the years.) I need to remind him that he always said one of the first things he ever noticed about me was how nice my hands and nails are. 🙂
Here are his: 🙂
Once you get as many made as you like, you can put them in little jars. They look so pretty mixed together:
I just think these are so pretty. And couldn’t be easier to do. This would even be a fun way to keep the kids occupied if they’re getting a little nuts during lockdown.
You could make them any color you want for any occasion. Fall, Halloween, Christmas, birthday parties, baby showers, weddings, just to name a few. A really inexpensive way to add some festivity to life.
Once I had made a bunch of the nail polish gems, I put them all in a little jar to start decorating my house for fall. But not before I posed them in my little backyard cafe. 🙂
So there you have it–nail polish gems! You can make an easy fall decoration in no time at all.
If you have made these before, or decide to make them, I’d love to see pictures of your creations!
And I’d love for you to follow me on Pinterest!
