We are in the final stretch of the Christmas holidays! Maybe you are hosting a Christmas party and are looking for a fun drink to serve, or maybe you just need a quiet moment to yourself with a special cocktail.
No matter the reason, making fun holiday cocktails is never a bad use of your time. :)
This year, I invite you to try Prancer’s Milk Punch.

Milk punch is popular in the south and is a creamy, usually very spirit-forward drink. If you have never tried one, don’t let the sweet little harmless-sounding name fool you. You should focus more on the punch, not the milk. A properly made milk punch can knock you on your butt. :)
I recently came across a Christmas cocktail called Prancer’s Milk Punch that sounded fun, so I decided to give it a try. Here is the recipe:
- 1 oz Redemption Bourbon
- 1 oz Courvoisier Cognac
- .5 oz Creme de Menthe
- .5 oz Creme de Cacao
- 2 oz heavy cream
I don’t know what is going on with all the liquor stores around me, but I could not find creme de menthe anywhere. Peppermint Schnapps is an acceptable substitute, so I went with that. However, if you use the schnapps, you’ll need to add a bit of green food coloring, because creme de menthe is green and schnapps is clear.
And the green color is part of what makes this cocktail fun.
To make the cocktail, simply pour all of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice and shake until everything is combined. Then pour into a festive coupe. Coupes are so classic and elevate every drink. I don’t know why we ever moved away from them.

I found a set of four at an antique store and I just love them. I used one to make my cocktail.

The bartender I saw make this cocktail grated Andes Candies mint chocolates over the top as a garnish. I tried several different things on top, but they all sunk to the bottom, so the candies really only enhance the mint flavor. I tried red and white sanding sugar, dragées, and Christmas jimmies. Nothing stayed afloat.
This is a very boozy drink, and the second time I made it, I adjusted the ratio of alcohol a bit to suit me because I found the bourbon to overpower the other flavors. So if you love bourbon, go with the original recipe. I do love it, but wanted to also taste the other spirits in this drink, so I reduced the bourbon a bit.
And I used one drop of green food coloring gel to create the minty green color since I didn’t have creme de menthe to create the color.
This is a very easy Christmas cocktail to make, as well as festive and delicious.
