Amazon Prime Day (or days this year) is upon us! 🙂 Last year’s Prime Day was 36 hours, and this year the deals run a full 48 hours.

This year the fun starts Monday, July 15th at 12am PT, 3am ET. Amazon is promising more than a million deals all over the world during this event, with new deals launching every five minutes!

Amazon Prime Day

In case you aren’t familiar with Amazon Prime Day, it got its start in 2015 to celebrate Amazon’s 20th anniversary. It lasted for 24 hours, and customers spent more than they did on Black Friday in 2014. Amazon sold 24,000 Instant Pots during its first Prime Day. Remember when Amazon was merely an online bookstore? 🙂

The following year, 215,000 Instant Pots were sold on Prime Day 2016. I’m not sure why Amazon decided to track Instant Pot sales as a measure of their growth, but I have one and it’s pretty great so I get it. 🙂 Additionally, more than two million toys and one million pairs of shoes were sold.

In 2017, the most popular item sold during Prime Day was the Echo Dot, Amazon’s voice controlled smart speaker. Again, the Instant Pot was the number one selling item in the U.S. and Canada.

In 2018, Prime members bought over 100 million items, with Fire Sticks and Echo Dots the best global sellers. By this time, Amazon had added Whole Foods to its portfolio, and Prime Day deals were available at Whole Food Stores. The best selling item? Organic strawberries. 🙂

And the Instant Pot sales count for 2018? 300,000!

Amazon Prime Day

So that brings us to this year. More hours to shop, more deals from which to choose. Amazon has said that one of the most exciting events for customers will be the opportunity to preorder Lady Gaga’s HAUS Laboratories beauty collection, including six collections and nine limited-time duo sets, while supplies last.

Each kit includes one glam attack (all over liquid shimmer powder), one RIP lip liner and one Le riot lip gloss. Little monsters everywhere will be the first to discover and shop Lady Gaga’s newest creation on amazon.com/hauslabs.

Here is just a sample of additional deals Prime members can expect:

Tips to Save this Prime Day

Of course, to take advantage of Prime Day deals, you need to be an Amazon Prime member. If you are not already a member, you can get a 30-day free trial to give it a try! And if you are a student and not already a Prime member, you can get a 6 month Prime Student trial membership. All you need is a .edu email address.

  • Amazon Prime Credit Cards: Now through July 25, when eligible Prime members apply and are approved for the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card they will instantly receive an $80 Gift Card that is added directly to their Amazon.com gift card balance.
  • Additionally, on July 15 and July 16, Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card members with an eligible Prime membership will receive a total of 6% Back on purchases at Amazon.com and Whole Foods Market, and Amazon Prime Store Card members with an eligible Prime membership will get 6% back at Amazon.com.
  • Amazon App: Prime members can shop anytime, anywhere with the Amazon App and set Watch a Deal alerts to start watching deals up to 6 hours before they are live. And, from July 8 through July 14, U.S. Prime members can also get a Sneak Peek into Prime Day deals in the Amazon App, and unlock additional discounts on select Early Prime Day deals between 6am and 12pm PT. Simply open the app, tap on the camera icon, and try the View in Your Room, Product Search, or Barcode Scanner to get an additional 20% off select Early Prime Day deals purchased through the app. For more information, visit amazon.com/scanit.
  • Shopping with Alexa: Get early access to select deals on devices—shop with Alexa on any Echo device beginning July 13. Just ask, “Alexa, what are my deals”. To track your Prime Day orders with Alexa, just ask, “Alexa, where’s my stuff?”
  • Amazon.com in Spanish: Customers can shop Prime Day deals, view their shopping cart, and place orders in Spanish. Preferred language settings can be updated in the Amazon App and on Amazon.com by clicking the ‘globe’ button located in the navigation bar at the top of the Amazon home screen.

It seems that other retailers are getting into the game, offering their own special shopping days to compete with Amazon. Target is having its own Deal Days, on the same dates as Amazon Prime Day. Walmart and Dell are having sales events as well.

I know this is a lot of shopping info to take in, and that there are a TON of links in this blog post, but as I was researching the deals, I wanted to try to make it as easy as possible for you to just click on the things you like and be taken straight to the savings!

So, happy shopping! If you have any tips to share about how to make the most of Amazon Prime Day, please feel free to share in the comment section.

And I’d love for you to follow me on Pinterest!
